We rented all five cottages as guests of my daughter’s wedding. All of us were astounded at the high quality of the furnishings, the cleanliness and the very unexpected welcome pack! after an amazing wedding nearby we were so pleased to be able to come ‘home’ to warm and comfy beds and only the bleeting of lambs to wake us up next morning!
Set in its own orchard garden on the edge of our 25- acre estate, Heather Barn is a spacious (1000 sq ft) award-winning single-storey accessible holiday cottage of the highest standard. The cottage is all on one level, so is perfect for the less mobile guest, for wheelchair users and for toddlers. Both bedrooms are ensuite. Bedroom 1 has a level-entry wetroom and stylish chrome and stainless steel grab rails and fittings. This bedroom has a wall-mounted smart-TV. Bedroom 2 has a shower bath. In both bedrooms, the beds have pocket sprung ziplink mattresses and can either be arranged as a superking double or as twin beds. Internal doorways are all 840mm wide and there is space in all rooms for turning circles of 1200-1500mm. The large (480 sq ft) open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area is double height, with exposed beams, quadruple doors and a part-glass roof, creating a really light and airy space with great views over the orchard garden to the far hills. The wardrobes in both bedrooms have a pull-down hanging rail which swings down to stand on the floor, making it easier to hang up and choose your clothes.
The style is modern – comfortable grey leather sofas and hardwood furniture. The solid oak kitchen is superbly equipped with coffee machine, microwave, ceramic hob, fan oven, fridge freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, quality pans, crockery and cutlery, and everything you need to cook up a storm! Like all our cottages, this accessible holiday cottage also has a strong sustainability bias, with underfloor heating (powered by our central biomass boiler), bamboo flooring and low energy lighting throughout.
Outside, the level entry south-west facing terrace has great views over the orchard garden to the hills beyond. The cottage is very dog-friendly – the area behind the hot tub is fully enclosed with a picket fence and two gates, so there is a secure area for dogs (but without spoiling the view from the hot tub), and we provide doggy welcome packs for your furry friends! We also have a bigger secure dog-walking area (“Central Bark”), which has mown paths, benches, a loop through the woods, poo bins, solar lighting and some lovely sculptures for onsite walks. Central Bark also leads on to a couple of other large fenced fields, which are excellent rabbit-chasing territory! There is exterior lighting, a Weber gas barbecue, outdoor sofas and table, and a large private lawn area, as well as plenty of parking. The hot tub (pictured below) sits on a deck outside the cottage, and is covered with a gazebo (so you won’t get wet from above!). The hot tub covers are lockable, so cannot be accessed accidentally by children.
We are very proud to have won the Gold Award in the Cornwall Tourism Awards for Access & Inclusivity in 2015, and the Silver in 2016/17, as well as the Gold in 2016/17 for Best Dog-friendly Business in Cornwall.

Heather Barn is beautifully done out and provides excellent access for guests with limited mobility. The location is also beautiful and close to many tourist attractions including accessible walking and cycle tracks. Very much enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.
Found it! Thank You Beth and Hugh, you have made somewhere very special… May we come back please?
We stayed in Heather Barn. The accommodation was really disabled friendly with a wet room, accessible wardrobes, everything on one level and loads of space. Heather Barn had everything you need and more, and there are some really nice touches. The outside space was amazing, from our own garden space which was populated by rabbits at night, through to the grounds which are full of wonderful rolling hills, lots of different trees and also a beautiful tree lined avenue when you drive in. Beth was very attentive and she really goes the extra mile, including returning the watch I left behind. I would thoroughly recommend Kernock Cottages. It is also well located for touring around. We had lovely days out at Looe, Burgh Island and Bude and there are lots of other places nearby.
We stayed in Heather Barn for our summer holiday and had a fabulous time. We loved the garden best of all because it is huge and private but the cottage itself is also lovely, very clean, modern and finished to a very high standard. We had fantastic weather and some great days out as Cornwall is beautiful and there are lots of things to do and places to visit. Our best day was a family canoe trip courtesy of the Tamar Trails Centre which was really good fun. We also enjoyed the outdoor water park at Paignton and body boarding at the beautiful beaches of Holywell Bay near Newquay and Widemouth Bay at Bude.
