Information
Helping you to get the most out of your stay at Kernock Cottages
We hope you have a wonderful holiday staying in our holiday cottages. To make things easier while planning your holiday and while you are here, we have put together information which we hope will be useful. For all attractions, restaurants etc we have included notes on accessibility (useful for wheelchair users and parents with buggies), the phone number (T), posctcode for SatNav (SN) and website address (W), to make booking and finding the places easier. You can access these either from the dropdown menu, or from the links below
Local Information
If you scroll down this page, you will find information that may be useful: food stores, local doctors, dentists, hospitals, churches, ATMs, taxis, post offices, car repair garages and vets. For mobility equipment hire, please see our Accessibility page. There is also some information about staying on the Kernock estate. While we are very relaxed and there is no long list of rules, there are a few things you need to know, so please take the time to read this page. Thank you.
What’s Included
This should help with the packing, as it tells you what to expect in your cottage when you arrive.
Accessibility
We aim to support you so that you can have a wonderful break in Cornwall. Hopefully you will find this information useful, but please do contact us if you have any accessibility needs, special requirements, or need further information. We have included here some information that previous guests have found useful, enabling them to have a comfortable stay and enjoy all that the area has to offer. You will find comprehensive accessibility statements for each cottage and details of equipment that can be hired.
Sustainability, Eco and EV
In 2023 we received a Cornwall Tourism Award for our outstanding Ethical and Sustainable business. We aim to make our business as sustainable as possible. These days “green” and “luxury” can go hand in hand. You’ll find information here on our sustainability policies, our biomass boiler, and some of the local wildlife.
Hot Tubs
All our holiday cottages have their own hot tub, which sits on a deck and is covered by a gazebo Please look at this page to read about the high-tech features of these quality Shoreline hot tubs and a few DOs and DONTs to adhere to.
Reviews
Guest feedback and reviews are really useful, both to prospective guests (to make sure we do what we say on the tin) and to us, so we can continue to improve our offer. All are independent reviews from real guests who have stayed with us. They come from 3 different sources – UpFront Reviews, MyCottageHoliday, and TripAdvisor.
Pubs, Cafes & Restaurants
A wide range of eateries and drinking holes, from fine dining to pub grub. We have added an extensive list to help you plan if you intend to eat out. There are access notes on each – useful if you are a wheelchair user and need to know which ones don’t have accessible loos. If you are planning a walking holiday, visit our Great Outdoors page where we have recommended walks that include convenient and lovely eateries along your route.
Wellbeing, Spa, Swimming and Golf
We offer our guests complimentary membership to the China Fleet Country Club, and there are other options for spa and swimming – details can be found here. Sea and river swimming is popular in Cornwall but you must be aware of the dangers (tide times, temperatures and currents) and swim at our own risk. You may wish to consider entering a sea or lake swimming event in Cornwall. We list some of the closest and best known Golf courses in Cornwall, with course length and par. For current green fees, please check the website of the individual course.
Historic Houses, Gardens and Days Out in Cornwall
Cornwall has plenty of splendid National Trust houses (Cotehele is the just 4 miles from Kernock) and is renowned for its glorious gardens. Here are a few suggestions you may like to visit, including archery and tree surfing. We recommend Adrenalin Quarry for high octane activities, the famous Eden Project, and the beautiful Lost Gardens of Helligan.
Beaches, Sea Watersports, Boat Trips and Diving
This is Cornwall… where to start! We’ve listed the closest beaches first, and then given a list of beaches around Cornwall with brief surfing notes where appropriate. Most beaches are dog-friendly (many all year round, and some only October to March). There are notes for the dog-friendly status of the local beaches. In this section you can find details of watersports providers so that you can book in advance.
River and Lake Adventures
If you like canoeing, paddleboarding or fishing then this is a useful starting point for planning your day.
Picturesque Harbour Towns and Vineyards
We are so close to popular harbour towns: Looe, Polperro and Mevagissey are the closest. Though not a harbour town, Tavistock is well worth a visit and a cream tea!
Cancellation Policy
Outlines our cancellation policy, and (highly) recommends you take out insurance to cover you in the event of a cancellation. There is also a link to a company that specialises in insurance for UK holidays (we have no commercial relationship with this provider, and other providers are available, but they seem to offer very reasonable rates, and we thought it might be useful as a starting point).
Do also have a look at our Pinterest boards, which show most of these things to do on a map.
